The Yarmouk Forest Reserve was established in 2010 and spans the rolling hills of northwestern Jordan, near the Syrian border. The reserve protects the world's southernmost natural stands of the Deciduous Oak (Quercus ithaburensis), which is the national tree of Jordan. The landscape is characterized by a Mediterranean climate, fostering high biodiversity with more than 200 recorded plant species. Geographically, the reserve overlooks the Yarmouk River valley, with elevations ranging from sea level to about 500 meters. In addition to oak forests, the area features carob trees and wild pistachios. The region is ecologically significant for the preservation of rare vertebrates, including the Greek tortoise. For visitors, the reserve gives various hiking trails that are particularly memorable during the spring when the wildflower blooms are at their peak.

The reserve is located in northwestern Jordan and is best reached by car from Amman or Irbid. Follow the main northern highways heading towards the well-known village of Umm Qais.

Spring from March to May is the best time to visit, as the hills are covered in a carpet of wildflowers, including the rare black iris, and the oak forests are at their lushest and greenest.
