Odawara is a prominent castle town in Kanagawa Prefecture that served as a strategic hub during the Edo period. The heart of the city is the beautifully reconstructed Odawara Castle, surrounded by a sprawling park that is especially spectacular during cherry blossom season. The city features a successful blend of history, culture, and maritime flair on the shores of Sagami Bay. For beachgoers, Miyukigahama (御幸ヶ浜) is a popular destination. This pebble beach gives a wide view of the ocean and is a peaceful spot for seaside strolls, away from the hustle and bustle of major cities. Although the surf can be strong here, locals appreciate the place for its relaxed atmosphere and fresh sea breeze. Local gastronomy is famous for Kamaboko (fish cakes) and fresh seafood from Odawara Port. Thanks to its excellent Shinkansen connection, the city is a good starting point for excursions to Hakone or a first-rate stopover on the way from Tokyo to Kyoto.
