Gundam Factory Yokohama (Japan)

Weather…

Gundam Factory Yokohama was a temporary attraction at Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, featuring a life-sized, moving replica of the RX-78-2 Gundam. The project was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Gundam franchise and opened in December 2020. The robot stood 18 meters tall and weighed approximately 25 tons. Unlike previous static Gundam statues, this model was equipped with 24 movable joints, allowing it to walk, raise its arms, and transition through various sequences. The robot was housed in a dedicated structure called the Gundam-Dock, which allowed visitors to view the massive machine from elevated platforms. The site also featured a laboratory area where the engineering principles and mechanisms behind the robot's movement were detailed. Originally intended for a one-year run, its popularity led to several extensions until its final closure in March 2024.
