Monte Cimone (Italy)

Weather…

Monte Cimone stands at 2165 meters, the highest peak in the Northern Apennines, located in the Emilia-Romagna region within the province of Modena. Its prominent conical shape dominates the landscape, making it one of Italy's most recognizable mountains. Due to its elevation and isolated position, Cimone is a strategically important site for meteorology and telecommunications; its summit hosts an Italian Air Force weather station and a National Research Council (CNR) observatory. Historically known since antiquity, the mountain served as a significant boundary point during the Middle Ages. Today, Monte Cimone is home to the largest ski resort in the Apennines, featuring over 50 kilometers of slopes. The flora is marked by a diverse range of alpine plants, while the slopes are covered in extensive beech and conifer forests. The view from the summit is considered one of the most expansive in Italy, encompassing the Alps, the Adriatic, and the Tyrrhenian Sea under optimal conditions.
