Weather…

The Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi Regional Natural Park, located in the province of Ancona in the Marche region, is the largest protected area in the region. The park is centered around the dramatic limestone gorges carved by the Sentino River and the world-famous Frasassi cave system. Geologically, the area is a textbook example of karst topography; the Frasassi Caves were only discovered in 1971 and contain one of the largest underground chambers in Europe, known as the 'Abisso Ancona.' The landscape features rugged cliffs that provide nesting grounds for rare birds of prey, including golden eagles and peregrine falcons. Historically, the area has been inhabited since prehistory, and the gorges house remarkable religious sites like the hermitage of Santa Maria infra Saxa and the neoclassical Valadier Temple, built inside a cave in 1828. Today, the park serves as a major hub for speleology, hiking, and rock climbing, while preserving a diverse range of Mediterranean and continental plant and animal species.
