Bandhavgarh (India)

Weather…

Bandhavgarh National Park is world-famous for having one of the highest tiger densities in India. Located in the Vindhya Hills, the park combines wild nature with fascinating history. The namesake Bandhavgarh Fort, said to be over 2,000 years old, sits atop a steep cliff overlooking the reserve. The park's topography is varied, with steep cliffs, gentle forests, and open marshlands. Besides tigers, the park is home to leopards, sloth bears, and numerous bird species. A cultural highlight within the forest is the monumental 10th-century 'Shesh Shaiya' (reclining Vishnu) statue. Bandhavgarh is also historically significant as the ancestral home of the first white tigers. Nature experiences are complemented by exploring ancient caves with historical inscriptions. Local gastronomy features the bold flavors of Madhya Pradesh, often served in ecologically sustainable resorts. Access is typically via Umaria railway station or Jabalpur airport. The best time to visit is from October to June, with the core zone closed during the monsoon. For photographers, Bandhavgarh gives excellent opportunities due to its hilly landscape and good visibility of wildlife.
