Pachmarhi
Pachmarhi is located on a high plateau in the Satpura Range and is a peaceful retreat filled with legends. Its name is derived from the 'Panch Pandav' caves, where the Pandava brothers are said to have sought refuge during their exile. The town maintains an appealing colonial character with old bungalows and well-kept gardens. The region is a paradise for nature lovers. Key highlights include spectacular waterfalls such as Bee Falls and Silver Fall, as well as deep ravines and gorges. The Dhupgarh viewpoint is the highest point in Central India and is famous for its easy on the eye sunrise and sunset views over the forested hills. Spiritual sites like the Jata Shankar Temple, situated in a natural cave, attract many pilgrims. The surrounding area is part of the Satpura Biosphere Reserve, ensuring rich flora and fauna. Local gastronomy gives simple but tasty regional dishes characteristic of the tribal communities. Access is typically via Pipariya railway station, followed by a scenic drive through dense forests. The best time to visit is from October to June, as the climate remains pleasantly cool here even during summer. Pachmarhi is convenient for hikers and those seeking tranquility away from urban bustle.
