Seyðisfjörður is a welcoming town positioned in the East Fjords of Iceland, located at the innermost point of a 17-kilometer-long deep fjord. The town is widely celebrated for its animated art scene and remarkably well-preserved Norwegian-style wooden houses from the late 19th century, built during the peak of the herring trade. Seyðisfjörður serves as Iceland's primary international maritime gateway, as it is the arrival point for the Norröna ferry, which links the island weekly to the Faroe Islands and Denmark. A prominent landmark is the pale blue wooden church, fronted by a famous rainbow-colored walkway that has become one of the most photographed spots in the country. The town is home to the Skaftfell Center for Visual Arts and hosts numerous international artists throughout the summer months. Geographically, it is surrounded by sheer mountains and countless waterfalls, most notably Gufufoss. Despite its modest population of around 700 residents, the town maintains a surprisingly cosmopolitan atmosphere and a deep cultural heritage.
