Chapel of Sitke (Hungary)

Weather…

The Calvary Chapel of Sitke is an impressive sacred structure in Vas County, picturesquely situated on a hilltop overlooking the village. Built in 1871 in neo-Gothic style by the Felsőbüki Nagy family, the chapel serves as a family crypt and a place of devotion. The building is distinguished by its elegant architectural lines and meticulous stonework. A unique aspect of the site is its modern cultural significance: since the 1980s, it has hosted the Sitke Rock Festival. This charity event was originally launched to raise funds for the restoration of the then-dilapidated chapel. Thanks to the initiative of local musicians and the support of thousands of rock fans, the chapel was fully renovated. Today, it stands not only as a religious monument but also as a symbol of community cooperation and heritage preservation through contemporary cultural initiatives.
