Nádasdy Castle Sárvár (Hungary)

Weather…

The Nádasdy Castle in Sárvár stands as one of Hungary's most pristinely preserved Renaissance fortifications and a cornerstone of national heritage. The castle achieved its current form during the 16th and 17th centuries under the Nádasdy family, who transformed it into a significant cultural and political hub. The Great Hall remains the most spectacular interior space, featuring ceiling frescoes painted in 1769 that depict the legendary battles of Ferenc Nádasdy against the Ottoman forces. Characterized by its unique pentagonal layout and corner bastions, the fortress was originally protected by a water-filled moat, which has since been converted into a lush public park. The site holds immense religious importance as the location where the first Hungarian translation of the New Testament was printed in 1541. Today, the complex houses the Ferenc Nádasdy Museum, showcasing extensive hussar history and intricate Baroque wall paintings.
