Jeli Arboretum (Hungary)

Weather…

The Jeli Arboretum, located near the village of Kám, is one of Central Europe's most unique botanical gardens, primarily famous for its spectacular rhododendron blooming season. The garden was established in 1922 by Count István Ambrózy-Migazzi, who aimed to create a 'garden of eternal spring' featuring evergreen plants in the Western Hungarian climate. Spanning approximately 75 hectares today, the arboretum hosts plant species from several continents, including exotic specimens from Japan, China, and North America. Its main attraction is the collection of over 300 rhododendron varieties that transform the forest into a wide-open sea of colors during May and early June. In addition to the floral displays, the site features observation towers, educational nature trails, and a specialized canopy walkway for viewing the forest from above. The carefully engineered water systems and aesthetic landscape planning make the arboretum a significant ecological research site and a popular destination for nature photographers.
