Bruce Beach

Bruce Beach is located on the southwest coast of Bubaque Island and is the crown jewel of tourism in the Bijagós Archipelago. The miles-long, pristine beach is lined with tall palm trees and gives shallow, calm waters that are convenient for swimming and relaxation. Since Bubaque is the tourist hub of the archipelago, Bruce Beach is relatively accessible yet maintains its wild and peaceful ambiance. There are a few small, eco-friendly lodges nearby offering simple but authentic accommodations. Visitors come here to escape daily life and enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Atlantic. It is also an excellent place to observe local culture, as fishermen often cast their nets near the shore. Getting to Bubaque involves a ferry or speedboat ride from Bissau, and from Bubaque town, a sandy track leads directly to the beach (about 15-20 km). The best time to visit is from November to May. For a local culinary treat, try the freshly caught oysters and shrimp, often prepared right on the beach over an open fire.
