Enipeas Waterfall (Greece)

Weather…

The Enipeas Waterfall is located within the gorge of the same name on the eastern slopes of Mount Olympus, near the town of Litochoro. The Enipeas River originates in the heart of the mountain at Prionia and descends through numerous cascades toward the Aegean Sea. The waterfall is part of a spectacular ecosystem characterized by crystal-clear, ice-cold water and lush vegetation, including plane trees and ferns. In Greek mythology, Enipeas was the most handsome of the river gods, with whom the mortal Tyro fell in love. The hiking trail through the gorge passes several 'bathtubs', natural rock pools carved by the erosive power of the water over millennia. The region is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to numerous rare plant species endemic to Mount Olympus. Access is typically gained via Litochoro, and the path forms part of the classic mountaineering route to the highest peaks in Greece.
