Tema Oil Refinery (Ghana)

Weather…

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is Ghana's only petroleum refinery and a strategic asset for the nation's energy security. Established in 1963 in the industrial city of Tema, it was originally a joint venture between the Ghanaian government and the Italian energy firm Eni. The refinery has a processing capacity of approximately 45,000 barrels of crude oil per day, producing various fuel products including gasoline, diesel, aviation turbine kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The facility features extensive storage tank farms with capacities in the millions of liters, serving as the country's strategic national reserve. Over recent decades, the refinery has faced technical and financial challenges, leading to modernization proposals aimed at increasing its capacity to 100.000 barrels per day. TOR plays a vital role in stabilizing domestic fuel prices and reducing the country's reliance on imported refined petroleum products. It remains a key component of Tema's industrial landscape and the broader Ghanaian economy.
