Nungua is a historic coastal town located in the Greater Accra Region, serving as the administrative capital of the Krowor Municipal District. As one of the six original traditional states of the Ga people, Nungua possesses a rich heritage spanning several centuries, rooted in the ancient migrations of the Ga tribes along the Gulf of Guinea. The town is renowned for its lively cultural life, most notably during the annual Kplejoo festival, where traditional songs and rituals are performed to honor local deities and ensure a good harvest. Geographically positioned between Teshie and the industrial city of Tema, Nungua has evolved into a vital residential and commercial zone within the Accra metropolitan expanse. While fishing was historically the primary livelihood, the proximity to the Tema Harbour has led to significant industrial diversification. Nungua is home to esteemed institutions such as the Regional Maritime University and Nungua Senior High School. Despite modern urban pressures, the community remains deeply connected to its ancestral customs and social hierarchies.
