Velburg is a pretty small town in the Neumarkt district of the Upper Palatinate, harmoniously integrated into the rugged landscape of the Upper Palatinate Jura. The town looks back on a long history closely linked to the rule of the Lords of Velburg and later the Wittelsbachs. The most striking sign of the past is the Velburg castle ruins, perching proudly above the town. A special attraction is the King Otto Stalactite Cave, discovered in 1895, which attracts visitors from all over Germany with its bizarre formations. The historic town center is characterized by Upper Palatinate architecture and narrow alleys. Economically, Velburg is based on a healthy mix of agriculture, tourism, and regional craftsmanship. Due to its convenient location on the A3 motorway, the town is also a popular residential area for commuters to Regensburg and Nuremberg. The natural surroundings, with their limestone cliffs and dense forests, offer excellent conditions for hikers and climbers.
