Landshut is a magnificent Lower Bavarian city on the Isar River that is home to a glamorous history as the former residence of the Bavarian dukes. Founded in 1204 by Duke Ludwig the Kelheimer, the city quickly became a political and cultural center of the Duchy of Bavaria-Landshut. Towering over the historic city center is the imposing Trausnitz Castle, which served for centuries as the ancestral seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty and now captivates visitors with its opulent halls and expansive views. A globally unique architectural monument is St. Martin's Church, featuring the world's tallest brick tower, which rises over 130 meters into the sky. Every four years, the city hosts the Landshut Wedding, one of Europe's largest historical festivals, commemorating the marriage of Duke George the Rich in 1475. The historic old town, with its colorful gabled houses and wide boulevards, is considered one of Germany's best-preserved medieval ensembles. Today, Landshut is the capital of Lower Bavaria, blending bustling tradition with dynamic economic development.
