A highlight in the festival calendar of the gold-beating town, held on the last weekend before the Bavarian summer holidays (late July). Three days in the old town with live music, culinary offerings and a sociable atmosphere.
Situated just south of Nuremberg, Schwabach proudly holds the title of the Goldbeating City, preserving a rare and highly specialized artisanal heritage. For centuries, craftsmen here have hammered gold into the finest leaf, a precise process vividly demonstrated at the modern City Museum through interactive exhibits and original workshop setups. The locally produced glittering material decorates roofs worldwide, as well as the magnificent high altar of the late Gothic Church of St. John and St. Martin right on the bustling market square. This square serves as the spirited center of the old town, framed by meticulously restored half-timbered houses and the historic town hall. A notable culinary specialty is the Schwabacher Ribbl, a savory spiced roast traditionally served in hearty Franconian taverns. With its narrow medieval alleys, the gentle flow of the Schwabach stream, and a lively cultural scene, the city provides a characterful mix of Middle Franconian tradition and genuine craftsmanship.
