Weiden in the Upper Palatinate is a prominent city in eastern Bavaria, serving as the cultural and commercial heart of the Northern Upper Palatinate region. It achieved worldwide fame as a leading center for the porcelain industry, with legendary manufacturers like Seltmann Weiden and Bauscher still operating today. The city is also deeply defined by its association with the late Romantic composer Max Reger, who spent his formative years here; his legacy is honored by the annual Max Reger Days festival. The photogenic old town center is anchored by the Old Town Hall, built between 1539 and 1543, and a market square lined with colorful gabled buildings. Strategically located in the Waldnaab river valley, Weiden serves as a vital link between Bavaria and the Czech Republic. It is home to the International Ceramic Museum, one of the most important institutions of its kind in Europe. Today, the city is a modern service and logistics hub, balancing its industrial heritage with high-tech growth and a high quality of life near the Bavarian Forest.
