Moosburg an der Isar is the oldest town in the Freising district of Upper Bavaria, boasting a history that dates back to the Roman era. In the Middle Ages, it was a major ecclesiastical center, anchored by the monumental Kastulus Minster, which houses the renowned high altar by late-Gothic sculptor Hans Leinberger. The town is geographically defined by its location at the confluence of the Isar and Amper rivers, surrounded by lush floodplains that are popular for outdoor recreation. Moosburg holds a significant place in modern history as the site of Stalag VII A, the largest prisoner-of-war camp in Nazi Germany during World War II; today, a fountain and memorial stand in honor of the prisoners. Since the mid-20th century, its proximity to Munich International Airport and major transport arteries has fueled substantial economic growth, transforming it into a hub for logistics and medium-sized industries. Despite its industrial success, Moosburg maintains a traditional Bavarian character, celebrated through local festivals and a well-preserved historic center.
