Dingolfing, located in Lower Bavaria along the banks of the Isar River, is globally recognized as a premier hub for the automotive industry. The town's economic trajectory changed forever when BMW acquired the local Hans Glas GmbH, famous for the Goggomobil microcar, in the 1960s, eventually building Europe's largest BMW production site here. Despite its industrial prowess, Dingolfing retains a welcoming historic core in its 'Oberstadt' (Upper Town). The Ducal Castle (Herzogskastell), a well-preserved medieval structure, now serves as an award-winning museum exploring regional history and industrial heritage. The town has high living standards, supported by excellent public amenities like the Caprima leisure pool. Surrounded by the fertile Isar valley, Dingolfing represents a unique blend of high-tech manufacturing and deep-rooted Bavarian cultural traditions, maintaining its identity as a historic market town while powering the global car market.
