Greding is a photogenic small town in Upper Bavaria, tucked away within the rolling hills of the Altmühltal Nature Park. Its most remarkable feature is the near-perfectly preserved 14th-century town wall, which encircles the historic core with 21 defensive towers. Another significant monument is the Romanesque Basilica of St. Martin, which towers over the town and houses a notable ossuary (bone house). With over 1100 years of documented history, Greding was once a major market hub on the trade routes between Nuremberg and Munich. Today, it is widely known for the annual Greding Folk Costume Market (Trachtenmarkt), the largest of its kind in Germany, celebrating regional traditions. The surrounding landscape of the Schwarzach valley and the Jura plateau provides excellent opportunities for hiking and cycling, making Greding a favored destination for both culture seekers and nature lovers.
