Poti Sea Port (Georgia)

Weather…

Poti Sea Port is Georgia's largest sea and container terminal, located at the mouth of the Rioni River on the Black Sea. It was founded in the 1850s under the initiative of the Georgian intellectual Niko Nikoladze, who planned the city following European models. Geographically, Poti is Georgia's most important gateway for international trade, especially for goods destined for the Caucasus and Central Asia. The port is an integral part of the Silk Road strategy and serves as a key hub for freight transport between Europe and Asia. In 2011, APM Terminals took over management, leading to massive investments in infrastructure and technology. The port features specialized terminals for bulk, grain, and liquid cargo. Despite its economic strength, the port faces challenges from sedimentation from the Rioni River, necessitating constant dredging. Poti remains the indispensable logistical anchor for the Georgian economy and the neighboring landlocked countries of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
