Booué is a strategically significant town in the Ogooué-Ivindo province of central Gabon, situated directly on the banks of the mighty Ogooué River. The town gained historical importance as a major outpost during colonial expansion and later as a crucial junction of the Trans-Gabon Railway. Due to its geographic location, Booué serves as a natural gateway to Lopé National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique combination of savanna and rainforest. Economically, the settlement benefits from its role as a logistics hub for the transport of timber and minerals from the interior. The Ogooué River provides a scenic backdrop here with numerous rapids that present a challenge for navigation. Booué also functions as the administrative center for the Lopé Department and hosts a diverse population living off trade and forestry. The town's architecture reflects both traditional influences and functional buildings from the railway era.
