Vega Launch Pad (ELV) (French Guiana)

Weather…

The ELV (Ensemble de Lancement Vega) launch pad is specialized for launching the lightweight European Vega rockets. It is situated on the grounds of the former ELA-1 pad, from which the very first Ariane rocket lifted off in 1979. The conversion into the ELV facility included the construction of a new mobile gantry and the adaptation of underground ducts for Vega's solid-fuel motors. Standing approximately 33 meters tall, Vega is significantly smaller than Ariane but still requires high-precision infrastructure for placing small satellites into polar or sun-synchronous orbits. The ELV facility plays a crucial role in Europe's ability to respond flexibly to the growing market for small satellites. Since Vega's maiden flight in 2012, this site has established itself as a reliable part of the space centre and is continuously being modernized for the more powerful Vega-C version.
