Guiana Space Centre (French Guiana)

Weather…

The Guiana Space Centre (CSG) in Kourou is Europe's primary spaceport and one of the most advanced launch facilities in the world. It was selected by the French government in 1964 due to its convenient location near the equator. Its geographical position at 5 degrees north latitude allows rockets to efficiently harness the Earth's rotational speed, saving fuel and permitting higher payload capacities. The center is co-operated by the French space agency CNES, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the company Arianespace. It has been the launch site for legendary rockets such as Ariane 4 and 5, the new Ariane 6, as well as Vega and formerly Russian Soyuz launchers. The facility spans approximately 700 square kilometers and is under strict security. In addition to the launch pads, it houses the Musée de l'Espace, which educates visitors on the history of European space exploration and the technical intricacies of satellite deployment.
