Montagne de Kaw is a prominent mountain range located in the eastern part of French Guiana, within the municipality of Roura. It is primarily renowned for the vast wetlands that surround its base, known as the Marais de Kaw-Roura National Nature Reserve, which was established in 1998. This area represents one of the most significant biodiversity hotspots in South America, providing a critical habitat for various species of caimans, particularly the black caiman. The mountain itself reaches an elevation of approximately 330 meters and is characterized by its lateritic soil and dense tropical rainforest cover. Historically, the region has been inhabited by indigenous populations and later became a site for cocoa and coffee plantations during the colonial era.
