However, the town is not just a scientific hub but also a sports mecca. Situated at 1800 meters, Font-Romeu has served as an official altitude training center for elite athletes since the 1968 Olympics. For tourists, the adjacent Pyrénées 2000 ski area gives first-class slopes, while summer trails wind through pine forests.
