Perpignan-Nord primarily covers the Le Vernet district, which is separated from the historic city center by the Têt River. The area experienced rapid demographic growth during the second half of the 20th century, particularly following the arrival of a large number of returnees from North Africa in the 1960s. Today, the northern sector is a multicultural hub featuring a mix of residential zones and essential public institutions, including the prominent Perpignan Hospital Center. Geographically, this part of the city serves as the gateway to the Agly Valley and the Corbières mountains, making it a strategic point for regional trade and transportation. The architecture ranges from traditional Catalan houses to mid-century modern residential complexes. Nearby sports facilities highlight the city's deep-rooted passion for rugby. Despite its modern expansion, Perpignan-Nord maintains a strong connection to the region's Catalan identity, which is evident in local festivals and bilingual signage. Current urban renewal projects focus on revitalizing the banks of the Têt River to provide enhanced green spaces and recreational areas for the local community.
