Aussonne is a thriving commune located in the Haute-Garonne department of southwestern France, positioned on the northwestern outskirts of the Toulouse metropolitan area. Historically a quiet agricultural village known for its brick production and grain farming, its character has shifted significantly due to the rapid expansion of the aerospace industry in nearby Blagnac. The town is named after the Aussonnelle stream, which flows through the territory before joining the Garonne river. The landscape is characterized by the 'terres fortes' of the Garonne valley, which provided the clay for the iconic red bricks seen in the local architecture. In 2020, Aussonne gained international prominence with the opening of MEETT, the massive Toulouse Exhibition and Convention Centre, which is one of the largest architectural projects in France and serves as a major hub for business tourism in the Occitanie region. This development brought the tramway line directly to the town, linking this suburban enclave with the bustling center of Toulouse. Despite its integration into the industrial fabric of the aeronautical valley, Aussonne maintains its identity through local traditions and the preservation of its natural surroundings, such as the Bouconne forest and the scenic banks of the Aussonnelle.
