Thue et Mue is a forward-looking French commune located in the Calvados department of the Normandy region. Established on January 1, 2017, it is the result of the strategic merger of six villages: Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse, Brouay, Cheux, Le Mesnil-Patry, Putot-en-Bessin, and Sainte-Croix-Grand-Tonne. The commune covers a significant area in the Bessin plain, characterized by its rich loess soils which have supported intensive agriculture for centuries. The name is derived from the two coastal rivers, the Thue and the Mue, which meander through the communal territory. Beyond its agricultural roots, Thue et Mue is a site of deep historical significance; it sat directly in the path of British and Canadian forces during the 1944 Battle of Normandy. This heritage is preserved in the local architecture and numerous war memorials. Today, it serves as an attractive residential area for those working in nearby Caen, offering a high quality of life with integrated municipal services.
