Le Tréport is a striking seaside resort on the Alabaster Coast in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. It is internationally renowned for its colossal chalk cliffs, which rise to 106 meters (348 feet), making them the highest in Europe. A standout feature of the town is its unique funicular railway, which is carved directly through the white cliffs to connect the waterfront with the high plateau above. Historically, Le Tréport gained fame as a 'royal resort' due to frequent visits by King Louis-Philippe in the 19th century. The town's bustling fishing port is still very much active, providing fresh seafood to local markets and renowned restaurants along the quay. Visitors can explore the historic Saint-Jacques church or wander through the narrow streets of the Cordiers quarter, once home to local rope-makers and fishermen. Along with its 'sister cities' Eu and Mers-les-Bains, Le Tréport gives a wealth of cultural and architectural heritage. The dramatic interplay between the white cliffs, the turquoise sea, and the changing tides creates one of the most iconic landscapes in northern France.
