Bar-sur-Aube is located in eastern France in the Aube department, deeply rooted in the historical Champagne region. The town features a long history dating back to Gallo-Roman times, but it reached its peak significance during the Middle Ages as one of the four sites of the famous Champagne Fairs. These fairs made the town a central hub for European trade between the 12th and 14th centuries. Geographically, the town nestles against the foothills of the Langres plateau and is crossed by the Aube river, from which it takes its name. The architectural landscape is characterized by timber-framed houses and significant religious buildings like the Church of Saint-Pierre, featuring a unique wooden gallery. Today, the economy is heavily influenced by viticulture, specifically the production of Champagne from the Côte des Bar area, alongside agriculture and small-scale industries. The surrounding countryside also provides various leisure activities within the Forêt d'Orient Regional Natural Park.
