Mohon is a historically significant district within the city of Charleville-Mézières, located in the Ardennes department of northeastern France. Formerly an independent commune until its merger in 1966, Mohon was for over a century a titan of the French railway industry. The town's expansion was driven by the establishment of massive rail yards and maintenance workshops, which made it a critical node for the Eastern Railway network. Its most iconic landmark is the Mohon Roundhouse (Rotonde de Mohon), a magnificent semi-circular locomotive shed built in the early 20th century. This structure is now a listed historic monument and serves as a vital warehouse for the national railway museum, housing several legendary locomotives. Geographically situated on a loop of the Meuse river, the district's landscape is characterized by its red-brick industrial architecture and housing built for railway employees. Today, Mohon remains a testament to the industrial prowess of the Ardennes, transitioning into a lively residential neighborhood while carefully preserving its extraordinary technological heritage.
