The Pisavaara Ridge is located in the Peräpohjola region of northern Finland, spanning the municipalities of Tervola and Rovaniemi. It is the centerpiece of the Pisavaara Strict Nature Reserve, which was established in 1938 and remains one of the most strictly protected natural areas in Europe. The ridge's highest point, Liljalaki, rises to an elevation of 215 meters above sea level, offering a vantage point over the surrounding primary forests. These forests are characterized by ancient spruces and pines, some of which are several centuries old, providing a sanctuary for rare northern flora and fauna. Due to its status as a strict nature reserve, public access is heavily restricted to preserve the delicate ecosystem from human interference. The area is a vital site for long-term ecological research, helping scientists understand the natural state of northern boreal forests without the impact of modern forestry.
