Puurmani Castle (Estonia)

Weather…

Puurmani Castle, located in Jõgeva County, is one of the most beautiful Neo-Renaissance palaces in Estonia. The site originally held a medieval fortress of the Teutonic Order, known as Kursi Castle, but the current structure was commissioned by Count Gyldenband von Manteuffel and built between 1877 and 1881. The palace is distinguished by its white facade, intricate masonry, and a prominent 25-meter-high octagonal tower that has views over the surrounding park. The interior was finished with high-quality woodcraft and decorative elements that reflected the high social status of its owners during the late 19th century. Since 1923, the building has functioned as a school, which helped ensure its preservation during the tumultuous decades of the 20th century. Puurmani remains an outstanding example of the late manor-house period in Estonia, combining historical defense sites with the luxury of the European aristocracy.
