10th of Ramadan City is one of the first and largest planned industrial cities in Egypt, located in the Sharqia Governorate. It was established in 1977 by presidential decree with the aim of reducing overpopulation in Cairo and boosting the nation's industrial development. The city is named after the date of the commencement of the 1973 October War in the Islamic calendar. Hosting thousands of factories producing everything from textiles to food and electronics, it is a cornerstone of the modern Egyptian economy. The city features a well-planned infrastructure with wide avenues and designated residential and industrial zones. Due to its proximity to Cairo and the Suez Canal corridor, it continues to attract massive domestic and foreign investment. It provides jobs and modern housing for tens of thousands of workers, representing a key shift toward desert urban development.
