Mount Borawli is a prominent stratovolcano in eastern Djibouti, rising near the shores of Lake Abbe. Its silhouette dominates the dramatic landscape of the Danakil Depression and bears witness to the massive volcanic activity that shaped this region. The mountain consists of alternating layers of lava flows and pyroclastic material, with dark basalts contrasting against the white evaporite salts of the surrounding plain. Geologically, Borawli is closely linked to the extension process of the Afar Rift, with its summit crater still well-preserved. Historically, the area around the mountain has been home to the Afar nomads, who used the sulfurous springs at the volcano's base for medicinal purposes. The surrounding area is famous for its bizarre limestone chimneys, formed by subterranean geothermal activities.
