Godoria is a coastal settlement in the Obock Region of northern Djibouti, located northeast of the regional capital, Obock. It is situated on the Godoria Plain, a vast, low-lying coastal plain bordering the Red Sea, near the mouth of the Bab-el-Mandeb strait. The region is extremely arid and hot, but the plain can be seasonally flooded after rare but heavy rains, temporarily turning into a wetland that attracts migratory birds. The permanent population of Godoria is small, consisting mainly of Afar pastoralists and fishermen. Their way of life is nomadic or semi-nomadic, adapting to the availability of pasture and the fishing grounds in the sea. The settlement itself is a cluster of simple huts and serves as a base for fishing activities. The proximity to the rich fishing grounds of the Red Sea makes fishing an important economic pillar. Godoria is remote, and infrastructure is minimal. Accessibility is made difficult by the lack of paved roads. The Godoria Plain is also a significant location for camel husbandry in the region.
