Khor Angar is a small coastal town in the Obock Region of northern Djibouti. It is situated on the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, the strategic waterway connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The town is known for its pretty location, surrounded by black volcanic rocks and with access to pristine beaches and coral reefs. The economy of Khor Angar is traditionally based on fishing and, to a lesser extent, goat and camel husbandry. The surrounding waters are rich in marine life, making fishing the main source of income for the local Afar population. More recently, the government has made efforts to promote tourism in the area, highlighting the potential for ecotourism, diving, and fishing. The town also has ecological importance, with significant mangrove forests located nearby, which serve as breeding grounds for many fish species and birds. Connectivity to the rest of the country is via a coastal road to Obock and Tadjoura. Khor Angar has a small population and maintains a quiet, traditional atmosphere.
