Solrød is a coastal municipality and town located on the island of Zealand, forming part of the southern suburbs of the Copenhagen metropolitan area. The town center, Solrød Center, is a hub for retail and local administration, conveniently located near the S-train station which connects the town to Copenhagen and Køge. One of the most distinctive geological features of the area is the Karlstrup Kalkgrav, a former limestone quarry that has been transformed into a scenic lake with turquoise water and steep cliffs, popular for diving and hiking. The coastline of Solrød Strand provides a long stretch of sandy beach protected by dunes, providing a natural habitat for various coastal bird species. Historically, Solrød was a farming community, but the completion of the S-train line in the 1970s triggered rapid residential growth. The municipality is also known for its focus on green energy, including a large-scale biogas plant.
