Ishøj is a modern suburb of Copenhagen situated on Køge Bay, which underwent rapid development during the second half of the 20th century. Today, the town is internationally recognized primarily for the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, which stands out for its spectacular ship-like architecture located directly among the coastal dunes. Ishøj is characterized by its multicultural population and a meticulously planned urban structure that integrates residential, commercial, and recreational areas. The Ishøj Strandpark gives extensive green spaces, man-made lakes, and wide sandy beaches, serving as a vital recreational area for the entire metropolitan region. Despite the modern cityscape, the historic Ishøj Landsby with its medieval church has been preserved, creating an appealing contrast with contemporary architecture. Connected to the Danish capital via the S-train network, the town is a popular destination for both commuters and cultural tourists. The local economy is centered around retail and services in the Ishøj Bycenter.
