Nordhavn is one of Northern Europe's largest and most ambitious urban redevelopment projects, located in the northern part of Copenhagen's harbor. Originally an industrial free port, the area has been systematically transformed since 2009 into a sustainable, mixed-use district. The core vision is the creation of a 'five-minute city' where all essential services are accessible within a short walk. Architectural highlights include 'The Silo', a former grain elevator converted into luxury apartments with a striking geometric facade. Nordhavn is also home to UN City, a state-of-the-art office complex opened in 2013 that houses eight United Nations agencies. The district is characterized by innovative public spaces, such as Konditaget Lüders, a playground and fitness area situated on the roof of a multi-story parking garage. Connectivity to the city center was greatly enhanced in 2020 with the extension of the Copenhagen Metro. Today, Nordhavn serves as a global model for climate-friendly urban planning and modern waterfront living.
