Grundtvig's Church (Denmark)

Weather…

Grundtvig's Church, located in the Bispebjerg district of Copenhagen, is one of the world's most significant examples of Expressionist church architecture. Built between 1921 and 1940 based on designs by architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, it merges the style of traditional Danish village churches with monumental modernist forms. The church's most striking feature is its massive west facade, which resembles a giant pipe organ and stands 49 meters tall. Approximately six million yellow bricks were used in the construction, each hand-polished to achieve a seamless surface. The interior features a triple-aisled hall structure characterized by austere elegance and soaring proportions reminiscent of Gothic cathedrals. The church is named after N.F.S. Grundtvig, the influential Danish theologian, poet, and founder of the folk high school movement.
