Charlottenlund is an elegant district within the Gentofte Municipality, north of Copenhagen, named after Charlottenlund Palace. The palace was constructed between 1731 and 1733 for Princess Charlotte Amalie and later served as a summer residence for members of the Danish Royal Family. The area is defined by Charlottenlund Skov, one of Denmark's most frequented forests, which borders the coast. Another historical highlight is Charlottenlund Fort, built in 1886 as part of Copenhagen's coastal defense system, now serving as a popular recreational area and beach park. For decades, the district was home to the Danish Aquarium before its relocation to Kastrup. The residential areas in Charlottenlund are among the most exclusive in the country, featuring many well-preserved villas from the turn of the 20th century. The district has been connected to the capital by rail since the 19th century, facilitating its development. Today, it stands as a testament to high living standards and rich cultural heritage.
