Weather…

Kalemie, known as Albertville until 1971, is a major industrial city and transportation hub on the western shore of Lake Tanganyika. It was founded in 1892 by Captain Alphonse Jacques de Dixmude as a military post intended to suppress the slave trade and secure Belgian colonial interests. The town was named after Prince Albert of Belgium, the future King Albert I. Kalemie is notably the terminus of the railway line from Kabalo, which connects the Great Lakes region with the Congo River system, forming a vital trans-continental trade route. Its port is one of the busiest on Lake Tanganyika, facilitating international trade with Tanzania and Burundi. During World War I, the city served as a key base for Belgian operations in East Africa. Geographically, the area is part of the Great Rift Valley, resulting in a dramatic landscape of steep hills and deep waters. Currently, Kalemie serves as the capital of the Tanganyika Province and remains a center for fishing, mining, and regional logistics.
