Baudouinville (Moba) (Congo - Kinshasa)

Weather…

Moba, known as Baudouinville during the colonial era until the 1970s, is a significant port town on the southwestern shore of Lake Tanganyika in the Tanganyika Province. It was founded in 1893 by the White Fathers, a Catholic missionary order, and was named after Prince Baudouin of Belgium. Historically, the post served as a key center for Christian evangelization and a strategic military outpost during the campaigns against Arab-Swahili slave traders. The town's geography is characterized by rugged terrain, with high escarpments dropping steeply into the lake, creating a scenic but isolated environment. Its port remains vital for regional trade across Lake Tanganyika, connecting the area to Zambia and Tanzania. During the latter half of the 20th century, Moba was the site of significant rebel incursions and military clashes, particularly in the 1980s, which impacted its infrastructure. Today, it remains an important local center for fishing and agricultural trade in the southeastern part of the country.
