Ostroh Chateau (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Seeberg Castle (also known by its Czech name Ostroh) is located near the spa town of Františkovy Lázně and is one of the few surviving ministerial castles in the Cheb region. Founded around 1200 in Romanesque style, it originally served as a strategic border fortress for the Holy Roman Empire. Over the centuries, the castle underwent multiple reconstructions, integrating Gothic and Renaissance elements that define its unique architectural character. The complex consists of a fortified upper castle and a lower ward housing historical farm buildings. After decades of neglect in the mid-20th century, the castle was comprehensively restored between 1986 and 1990. Today, it operates as a municipal museum, showcasing period interiors, regional ethnography, and a traditional 'black kitchen'. Its location on a rocky promontory overlooking the Slatinný stream, combined with its well-preserved fortifications, makes it a premier example of medieval aristocratic living in Western Bohemia.
