Museum of Broken Relationships Zagreb (Croatia)

Weather…

The Museum of Broken Relationships (Muzej prekinutih veza) in Zagreb is a globally acclaimed conceptual museum dedicated to failed love stories and the objects left behind. Located in a Baroque palace in the Upper Town, it originated in 2006 as a traveling exhibition created by artists Olinka Vištica and Dražen Grubišić following their own breakup. The project gained immense international popularity, leading to the opening of a permanent museum in 2010. Its collection consists of personal items donated by anonymous individuals from across the globe, each accompanied by a short narrative detailing the history and the eventual end of a relationship. The exhibits range from sentimental keepsakes like letters and toys to unconventional items such as an axe or a prosthetic leg, offering a profound and often cathartic look at the universal human experience of loss. In 2011, the museum was honored with the Kenneth Hudson Award for the most innovative museum in Europe. It has since become one of Zagreb's most visited cultural attractions and even established a second permanent location in Los Angeles. The museum serves as a creative sanctuary for collective healing, transforming private sorrow into public art.
