💡 Tips

  • Get the best view of the Pelješac Bridge from the Komarna rest area; it's especially impressive when lit up at night.
  • Buy the 'catch of the day' directly from local fishermen early in the morning at the village pier.
  • Wear water shoes as the beaches are pebbly and sea urchins are common in the quieter rocky areas.
  • Consider a quick trip to Neum in Bosnia (5 km) for cheaper shopping, but remember to bring your passport.

Komarna is a relatively young resort in South Dalmatia, about 70 kilometers north of Dubrovnik. Formerly a small fishing village, the place has developed into a popular destination for travelers seeking modern apartments and a quiet environment. The outstanding feature of Komarna today is the spectacular view of the Pelješac Bridge, which connects the Croatian mainland with the Pelješac peninsula. The village is situated on a gentle slope, allowing almost all accommodations a view of the sea and the surrounding islands. The beaches are mostly pebble or consist of paved sunbathing areas with direct access to the deep blue, clean water. Komarna is particularly popular with families as the place is safe and manageable. There is much to discover in the surroundings: the Neretva Delta with its channels and tangerine plantations is only a short drive away. The medieval town of Ston and the vineyards of Pelješac are also quickly reachable. In the local taverns, fresh mussels and oysters from the nearby Mali Ston Bay are served, along with excellent regional wines.
